Coils manufacturers need a highly integrated approach to the selection, sale, design and production of finned pack heat exchangers. For these customers, Unilab, a leader for over 35 years in software in the field of heat exchange, has designed an innovative package for Coils Heat Exchangers. COILS SUITE is the Unilab software solution specifically designed to increase speed and accuracy in all phases of the finned pack exchanger proposal, sales and production process. The package includes 4 highly integrated modules: the DESIGN Module (known as Unilab Coils), for the verification and selection of finned coils, the SALES Module (mCOILS, available in both Desktop and web-based versions) and the
PRODUCTION module (Easy) + the new SIMULATION/SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

Our COILS DLL for integration in your Software & our API for web development complete our finned pack heat exchanger offer.

EXCHANGER SHAPE SECTION

We added  the “Exchanger Option” section which allows you to choose coils’ shape and flow, automatically changing the factors and impact on the calculation results based on the shape and position of the exchanger. In this section you can also set:

Fin Border: add an embossing in the fin edge. This embossing, if present, acts on the air-side pressure drops. There are three options: no embossing (no increase in pressure drops), embossed, with an increase in air pressure drops or custom embossed, where the user can impose a certain custom percentage increase in air-side pressure drops according to their own experimental data.

Fin treatment: you can now select and simulate the fin treatment (i.e. hydrophilic).

Turbolators:  when the velocity of the water or fluid in the tubes is low, a turbulator, usually made of copper, in the shape of a spring, can be placed inside the tube to promote turbulence and improve heat transfer. It is now possible to manage turbulators inside the tubes, with related editable factors.

LENGTH & PRESSURE DROPS OF CAPILLARY TUBES

UNILAB COILS now allows calculation of length and pressure drops of capillary tubes in direct expansion Coils! The user will be able to choose whether to set a length and calculate the pressure drops, or to set certain pressure drops and calculate the length of the capillary that realizes them! A new “Capillaries” button is available in the Manifolds section (for direct expansion coils only). Choose the capillary tube model (so a diameter, a thickness, and a material) and specify what kind of calculation to perform, whether to set a length and calculate the pressure drop, or to set a pressure drop and calculate the length of the capillary that makes it!

CALCULATION MODES

UNILAB COILS, allows, in 6 different modes, the calculation of the coil in verify mode (known the geometric and thermodynamic characteristics, the software gives the data related to the maximum performance that the coil can guarantee at the same conditions) and design mode (given a treatment to be realized, and fixed the geometric characteristics required, the software provides a list of usable solutions leaving to the customer the possibility to select the most technically suitable solution).

NEW GEOMETRIES IN A FEW CLICKS

UNILAB COILS allows you to calculate using any geometry and tube size (such as 7mm, 3/8 in., 1/2 in., 5/8 in., etc, 5mm and up to 3mm tube internal diameter) and comes with a list of more than 100 sample geometries. An easy to use wizard also help you create new custom geometries in a few clicks.

A CONSTANTLY UPDATED REFRIGERANT ARCHIVE + THE LATEST KILFROST™ fluids.

COILS contains the thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of more than 1000 fluids, including PROPANE, AMMONIA, CO2, ISOBUTANE (R600a) and others, along with the refrigerants such as R436A, R-455A, R1234yf, R1234ze, R449A, R32, R454B,  and others, constantly updated from the latest version of the NIST REFPROP library.

The latest refrigerants, and Kilfrost™ fluids are now available the Unilab fluid libraries, specifically in COILS and Special Applications.

AHRI / EUROVENT CERTIFICATION & CALIBRATION FACTORS

Coils allows the user to align capacity and pressure drops results, calculated through the software equations, with its own experimental test data. This is fundamental to calibrate the software & obtain EUROVENT and AHRI certification! Several of our customers have achieved EUROVENT or AHRI certification by submitting UNILAB COILS software to test their units. Compared to the laboratory test, COILS results on capacity and pressure drops are within the narrowest range and our COILS customers have been successful in achieving certification at the first attempt!

COILS SPECIAL APPLICATIONS, also known as SIMULATION, is the new COILS SUITE module dedicated to the simulation of COILS which are in series air side, and in parallel on fluid side. The special feature of this module is the possibility to
simulate different coils fed by different fluids, where the air temperature coming
out of one coil automatically becomes the inlet of the other.

UNILAB COILS is the best & most accurate software for the calculation of Coils Heat Exchangers and can be used in air conditioning, fancoils, industrial chillers and air handling units. It is an advanced tool for the calculation of both finned pack and smooth tube heat exchangers, and includes specific features for the HVAC market.
Compared to laboratory tests, UNILAB COILS calculation results show a very high level of accuracy in both capacity and pressure drops, allowing you to certify your heat exchangers, fancoils or air handling units with Eurovent and AHRI at the first attempt. UNILAB COILS is the result of over 35 years of experience in the HVAC market, validated by experimental data and consolidated customer satisfaction. Available in 3 versions, COILS adapts to your needs, allowing you to manage and enrich an already wide archive of geometries (geometry means the external diameter of the tubes, the tube pitch, the row pitch). From the PRO version, the user can perform a multiphase condensing calculation, access an expandable archive of fans and compressors, and quickly generate catalogs and performance tables. From the ENTERPRISE version, the user can simulate a refrigeration cycle project (made of a finned pack condenser, a scroll or screw compressor and an evaporator), calculate coils without fins, coils with an external mixture outside the tubes, a Runaround Coil system (bFly or N-M recuperators,and even Finned pack heat exchangers in series!(check the characteristics of each version!)
