Why employees need a relaxation area
Why is it becoming more and more important to provide workers with a workplace relaxation area? Even though many people tend to think that such an area may reduce productivity, high levels of stress among team members, caused by factors such as performance-related anxiety, competitivity and deadlines, may only be reduced through making a space available where they can relax.
Furthermore, it should be noted that equipping offices with a relaxation area which is not very comfortable is detrimental to the efficiency of the staff; poorly equipped kitchens, blinding lights or uncomfortable chairs only serve to ensure every break is unpleasant. In order to obtain positive effects it is not necessary to install costly items; a few cosy, comfortable elements such as a television, some tables and armchairs are sufficient.
Another thing to aim for in the workplace, is that it should become a social space where people can interact. The relaxation area should then contain cards, board games and other similar entertainments, to be used by the team as a means of interaction; in this way the group will become more united and its links strengthened.
Furthermore, offices with relaxation areas can also become ideal locations for employees to express their own creativity. If it’s true that the best ideas come to mind in the shower or while doing the dishes in the kitchen, those areas should also invoke a feeling of tranquility and be free from stress so that ingenious ideas may hatch.
Regardless of the workplace in question, there is no reason at all to suppose that a relaxation area will compromise the employees’ performance. On the contrary, such an area has the capacity to calm our minds, reduce tensions and (above all) maximize the team’s potential results.
