Body language at work and in business
What should our body language convey when we wish to appear capable, professional and able to expertly carry out all the tasks assigned to us?
Considering that so-called business body language tells so much about working in a profession, it is very important to assume ‘alpha’ positions which lead other people to believe that they are dealing with an individual of great potential and self-confidence.
These positions can be identified by the behaviour, posture and approach of such individuals: even when faced with the most stressful or complicated situations, they are able, for example, to maintain an upright posture with their eyes fixed on the person they are dealing with. In addition, they are able to give that impression of confidence, professionality and stability, which makes others take them seriously.
Of course, body language in business must not convey arrogance, haughtiness or conceit, but must help those who can master it to gain credibility in the eyes of others.  In order to succeed in all this it is possible to emulate the 3 positions suggested by Farhan Raja: a well-known Carrer Coach who over the years has specialized in providing support to workers and students wishing to learn what approach to adopt in order to build professional and individual success.
- Super hero pose
In Raja’s view, the super hero pose helps to improve self-esteem and give a sense of power: it consists of doing things like putting your hands on your hips, standing rigidly with the chest out, or if you are a woman, standing like a model with one arm on your hip and the back slightly arched.
- Triumphant pose
This position (also known as the record man pose) involves throwing the shoulders back and keeping the back straight, but also giving big smiles and lifting the arms: in short, the classic mannerisms of the happy winner who has something to celebrate. Who would not take on someone capable of such body language at work?
- Relaxed pose
In this case it is better to step out of the room before a meeting or an important appointment in order to calm your nerves and eliminate tension, sit on a chair with your back relaxed, hands crossed behind your head and your legs slightly raised. This is the typical position which helps you to re-energize yourself and nurture a feeling of peace.
