How NOT to think about work in your free time
Work and free time are two separate concepts which, regardless of the situation, should remain such. However, how can we avoid thinking about work when we are out of the office? Here are 9 practical tips to follow each day: useful suggestions aimed at anyone who works!
- Concentrate on other important things
In order not to think about work in your free time you must force yourself to focus your attention on other things which are equally important, such as friendships or family.
- Do nothing for a few minutes
Taking a short break from your daily activities (whether related to work or not) helps you to rest and re-charge your batteries so as to be productive at all times.
- Don’t talk about work matters at home
Discussing work matters at home may be considered a way of letting off steam, but in fact it merely forces us to re-live the feelings experienced previously.
- Don’t work at home
If possible it is best to carry out all work tasks at the office, but if it is absolutely necessary to continue some work at home, we advise you to get it done right away and not think about it again until the following day.
- Realise that you can’t control every single thing
Work and free time can stay separate only if we realise that total control over everything is impossible:Â changes to plans can often happen, so it is futile to become demoralised by such situations.
- Don’t let yourself be overcome by fear
Those who allow themselves to be overcome by fear live in pointless anxiety:Â when this happens you should calm down, consider whether something catastrophic is really going to happen and then take control once more.
- Distinguish between the concepts of analysis and brooding
Analysing means to look deeper into something in order to find solutions to a problem. Brooding means going over and over an episode which has already happened, and becoming demoralised at the thought of not being able to change it.
- Surround yourself with people who give out positive energy
Such individuals improve others’ mental approach and help them find new perspectives in order to deal with daily tasks as well as possible.
- Use smartphones, tablets and pc’s as little as possible
Outside work it is a good idea to limit your use of technological devices to a minimum, in order to leave space for more healthy pursuits, such as a social life, sport or any other activity which benefits your wellbeing.
These are our 9 tips on how not to think of work outside the office:Â useful suggestions to be followed carefully.
