Unilab’s Custom Software Solution for Sutton Stromart
Background
Sutton Stromart Limited, a complete radiator manufacturing company with Head Office and Manufacturing located in Toronto, Canada. For over 30 years Sutton has manufactured high-quality radiators and cooling systems for various applications including power generation, compressors, pumps, oil field equipment, steam condensers and process cooling applications.
Unilab SRL is a Heat Transfer Software Development Company with 30 years of experience in the HVAC&R market. Unilab provides cutting-edge technologies such as Heat Exchangers Design Software and Selection Software to HVAC&R manufacturers worldwide
The Problem
Sutton Stromart Limited wanted to have a modern and accurate design software tool to allow them to add additional product styles to their current offering which utilizes round tube core configuration.
The scope of work was to provide a design program to utilize oval brass tubes ( in line or staggered) and flat copper fins ( could be louvered or dimpled), and required the software to be updatable and respond to present and future design needs.
They required the ablity to change tube size / tube count / number of rows / fin count / louver or dimple fin etc.
Unilab’s Approach
By providing us with multiple examples of heat load transfer requirements we have delivered a customized version of Radiator Suite and following are the main features we have added:
- We had to change and update our standard regular Radiator Suite software to suit to the customer needs, for the geometry details we inserted an easy way to differentiate their main geometries with their names, and the relative drawings so that they could know whether the used fin was louvered or not.
- We added the calculation of the circuits in regards to the number of rows and passages
- We have inserted the Brass material so that the results would be in line to their requests
- We were able to modify the calculation engine and interface to provide Different Input Variable System (1) Capacity and Coolant Temp In, (2) Capacity and Coolant Temp Out, (3) Coolant temp In Coolant Temp Out), altitude input field, total And Excess surface Calculation, Reduction of Fluid List so that they can select the ones they work the most with Connection Calculations, ACFM calculation.
- Custom Printout so that customer could have all important data on the printout, and we went even beyond providing the possibility to export in Excel format.
- We fine-tuned the software results, to calibrate our calculation model and give an accurate and reliable software to the customer.
In order to accomplish the above points, we were in contact with Sutton Company Team that promptly gave us feedback and explanations, so that we were able to work and deliver a Turn Key project to Design Special Core Radiator on a win-win cooperation base.
