Road to CHILLVENTA: TOWER SUITE
In this “new episode” of our ROAD TO CHILLVENTA column, we analyze one of our best and most sought after products, the famous TOWER SUITE bundle, comprised by EVAPORATIVE CONDENSER and EVAPORATIVE COOLING, two modules, which can be separately purchased, allowing our customer to calculate & verify Evaporative Condensers & Evaporative Coolers.
Evaporative condensers differ from evaporative coolers because while in the former we have a refrigerant condensing inside the tubes, in the latter we have a mono-phase fluid (which can be a pure liquid or a liquid mixture) cooling down as it flows through the tubes with no change of phase (adiabatic cooling).
The Unilab Evaporative Condenser interface is extremely user-friendly and essential. All the thermodynamic data are displayed at the top, while in the “project” field, the user can find all the geometric characteristics of the Evaporative Condenser. Simply enter your input data into the main interface to get started.
Specifically, in the “project” section, the user can view and modify the coils geometry, calculate manifolds, manage tubes and additional fins. As for the coils heat exchanger, the software allows the calculation of heat exchangers with smooth tubes (without fins) and of finned pack heat exchangers, with either spiroidal or integral fins. The software also allows users to manage fans, spray systems and dimensional data of the unit.
Calculation with Unilab Evaporative Condenser is very simple. Just enter the input data into the green sections, along with the geometric and dimensional data of the project. Clicking on “calculate” will display the resulting capacity of the Evaporative Condenser, along with the other outputs in yellow.
As with all Unilab software, Evaporative Condenser allows you to print calculation results on a technical page, with the option of adding a psychrometric chart and a technical drawing of the unit. Printouts can then be exported to a .PDF file. Simple and fast!
New Chillventa Feature! The air coming out of the evaporative condenser might be very hot but is also very humid. Being very humid, the air coming out creates white plumes of water vapor (fog) that falls onto the ground, freezes & get very slippery, with the risk of people falling and getting injured. How to solve this? A finned pack heat exchanger, put over the spray systems: in Italy we use to call it “anti-plume”. This is most widely known as SPLIT SECTION. The hot refrigerant flows into this coil h.e. and gets cooled down, then enters the condensing coil and condenses. This prevents the creation of plumes & the risk of freezing. We are proud to announce Unilab introduced on its innovative EVAPORATIVE CONDENSER software the calculation of the SPLIT SECTION!
In Evaporative Cooling, the interface remains very similar to that of Evaporative Condenser: it is possible to calculate heat exchangers with smooth tubes (without fins) & fin packed coil heat exchangers with spiroidal or integral fins. In the upper part, we find the thermodynamic data on the air and tube side, while in the lower part we find geometric design data. As in Evaporative Condenser, it is possible to calculate in dry and wet mode. By choosing the various sublevels of the “project” menu it is possible to edit different values. The software contains an archive of the main geometries, which can be edited and populated with other geometries inserted independently by the user. Factors support equations in reaching experimental laboratory data. It is possible to modify the thickness and materials of both tubes & fins, and calculate the manifolds and spray systems. Finally, there is the archive management of single-phase and three-phase axial fans. The calculation engine is able to consider resistive aeraulic elements such as grids, filters and everything that could interfere with the airflow.
Once the input data has been entered in the green fields, together with the geometric and dimensional data of the project, it will be sufficient to click on “calculate”. The capacity of the evaporative cooler will then be displayed, along with the other output data in yellow.
As with all Unilab software, EVAPORATIVE COOLING allows the calculation results to be printed on a technical summary page, with the possibility of adding a psychrometric diagram and a technical drawing of the unit. Prints can then be exported to a PDF file. Simple and fast!
New features also in this case! A change in this case aimed at making the program user-friendly; We introduced a graphic where In the x-axis there is the water flow, in the y-axis there is the power. There are 2 curves, one is given by the first principle of thermodynamics, i.e. the power is equal to the flow rate for the specific heat for the thermal difference, the other instead represents the capacity of the exchanger; they cross at one point. This helps the user understand precisely if the calculation made converges and where it balances! In case the calculation does not balance, the two curves will be shown as non-converging, thus helping the user in the calculation. Here a screenshot:
