Big Tech: how it will change remote working
Big Tech is evolving rapidly to meet the needs of companies and employees who have, in the last year and a half, increasingly embraced working from home. This working model is becoming more widespread and is supported by solutions designed to:
- help workers organise their time more efficiently;
- manage remote devices more securely;
- aximise company productivity.
There are many aspects of remote working that require attention, but leading international IT companies have already realised that to obtain maximum benefits, it is essential to invest in emerging start-ups and new technologies first.
Big Tech is redefining the world of work
The recent increase in remote working has mainly been due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has highlighted its pros and cons, leading Big Tech to move swiftly to meet the new company requirements by proposing efficient solutions.
Among these new requirements is finding a solution to the problem that, due to a more frequent use of technology, people are no longer able to keep their private lives and professional lives separate.
The objective of leading IT companies is therefore to find innovative solutions, mainly via the acquisition of young dynamic start-ups, in order to provide a smart, flexible and accessible working model.
The future world of work is expected to be increasingly hybrid. Consequently, the employee’s main activities will not necessarily be tied to a specific physical space, so the worker will be able to carry them out anywhere, while bearing in mind the importance of security.
Staff who work from home in fact, will have specific platforms available for their use, supplied and controlled by the company, while their activities will be constantly monitored to guarantee high levels of productivity.
Team work is also considered to be of great importance by Big Tech, with companies exploring specific solutions that can permit remote workers to remain connected with their colleagues at any time.
A good example of this is videoconferencing software or systems which allow multiple individuals to intervene remotely at the same time to make changes to a project.
Remote working and Metaverso
Another key concept that Big Tech is investing in is Metaverso, an idea being which is gaining ground with leading IT companies, making it one of the most requested names on search engines.
This name, borrowed directly form science fiction, refers to a combination of persistent virtual worlds in constant evolution and can be visited using a virtual reality visor.
Considering that in Metaverso, employees carry out tasks using their personal avatar, or digital version of themselves, their activities are traced and have tangible results, opening countless opportunities within the world of work. In this artificial universe it will for example be possible to:
- perform transitions of digital goods;
- meet with the colleagues’ avatars in virtual meeting rooms;
- view real projects in their entirety, such as buildings under construction.
The opportunities offered by this technology are almost unlimited and several Big Tech firms are already studying possible ways to incorporate remote working in Metaverso, with the first applications expected to be ready soon.
The future of working from home looks diverse and full of interesting possibilities, but it remains to be seen how companies will respond to this ongoing virtualisation. In any case, the next decade will certainly bring huge development in this sector which everyone, like it or not, will be obliged to embrace.
