An engineer’s top ten favourite films
What are an engineer’s top 10 favourite films and what subjects are they about? Here are the top ten best films for engineers produced so far: films which have become a part of movie history and which we well present below.
- Star Trek: First Contact
In tenth position we can find the eighth episode of the Star Trek saga: the famous story of the fantastic adventures of the Starship Enterprise and its voyages to the outer reaches of the universe.
- Pacific Rim
In ninth place in our list of an engineer’s 10 favourite films we find Pacific Rim: the 2013 masterpiece produced by Guillermo Del Toro, inspired by the great Japanese films and the mechas of manga and similar animation.
- The thirteenth floor
In eighth position we have The thirteenth floor: a film from the late nineties (1999), inspired by the novel Simulacron 3 by the German director and screenwriter Josef Rusnak.
- Hugo
In seventh position we have Hugo: the film directed by Martin Scorsese and adapted by John Logan, which narrates the story of a twelve-year-old orphan who lives in a Paris railway station.
- Good Will Hunting
In sixth position we find Good Will Hunting, a film from 1997, which tells the story of a young mathematics prodigy who is found guilty of various petty crimes.
- Tron
Halfway down the list is Tron: the 1998 science fiction film from Disney directed by Lisberger, widely acknowledged as the first film of its genre to focus on virtual reality.
- Sphere
In fourth place we have Sphere; the film made by Levinson in 1998 and inspired by Michael Crichton, about a spaceship which has been found on the ocean bed. The main characters’ objective is to find alien life forms.
- The Social Network
On the lowest step of our chart’s podium is the Social Network: the 2010 film produced by Fincher, which tells the story of the well-known founders of Facebook.
- October sky
In second position in the list of an engineer’s favourite 10 films we have October Sky: a biographical movie directed by Joe Johnston in 1999.
- Apollo 13
On the top of the podium we find Apollo 13: the film made by Ron Howard in 1995, adapted from the book Lost Moon written by Lovell and Kluger.
So that is our chart of top ten 10 films for engineers: films of a certain standing, which have contributed greatly to movie history.
