Relaxation area in the workplace: how to make it more comfortable
In order to make the workplace more comfortable it is important to remember to provide a relaxation area which should be as pleasant and welcoming as possible. So how can we transform such an area into a space which fits employees’ needs? Here are some useful tips to put into practice.
- Provide free coffee and healthy food
In every self-respecting office with a relaxation area, healthy foods and free coffee must be available. These provisions, in fact, allow the staff to maintain sufficient energy levels to carry out all the tasks assigned to them and significantly reduce lapses in performance.
- Prepare a room with tables for lunch breaks and comfortable seating
If a room with tables for lunch breaks and comfortable seating is provided in the workplace, this gives employees the opportunity to relax and eat in a relaxed manner, and also to socialize. In order to offer an even better service, we suggest the provision of a couple of generously-sized sofas.
- Add a television set, newspapers and a few games
A television set, newspapers and games cannot be omitted in a well-organized relaxation area, because newspapers and TV help those who use them to stay up-to-date with the latest news, while playing games is relaxing and develops a sense of competition, thereby bringing the group closer together.
- Personalize the environment
Offices with a personalized relaxation area are best. This is because when the employees spend their breaks in an environment which is different from their usual workspace, they have a stronger impression of being able to switch off. In order to emphasize this difference, use decorations, furnishings and colours which encourage a feeling of relaxation.
- Celebrate important occasions
If you aim to improve the relaxation area even further, you should also use it for celebrating important occasions: by using this space to celebrate birthdays, promotions or other similar occasions, it will become associated with happy events.
In addition to the above, we advise you to include a small box in the workplace, where employees can leave their suggestions as to how the relaxation area might be improved: in this way they will feel more valued.
