ROAD TO CHILLVENTA 2018: XSHARK

In this episode of Road to Chillventa, we discover XShark, the commercial counterpart of the Shark software, which we have seen in previous episodes. XSHARK is a tool developed by UNILAB for companies from the HVAC industry which need a selection tool for their air/water or water/water liquid chillers & heat pumps, air conditioners, close control units, multifunctional units, condensing units, evaporating units, remote condensers and any type of special project created with SHARK which includes a refrigerant cycle. UNILAB XSHARK is the basically the commercial application of Shark, based on Shark projects and using Shark’s engine, designed as a reference tool for the Sales Department, exclusively for agents and distributors.

This program presents the electronic catalog for selection and estimation of liquid refrigerators, heat pumps, and air conditioners. It is a multilingual tool, the graphic interface and data can be customized according to different templates presented, which allows the creation of offers of many units.

The workflow, regardless of the graphic interface, allows the user to choose a series or a unit typology, starting from a few input data, such as the required capacity and temperatures. Thanks to the Shark engine, the software presents all the possible units able to satisfy the required inputed capacity range; you can even customize warning and input range levels so as to help the user and guide him through the selection process. The user then selects the unit and prints the offer with customized company drawings and graphics!

The application allows the inclusion of series, subseries, prices, accessories and unit performances data. The program and the final report include technical data, performance data and dimensional drawings. First, a detailed print preview is displayed. It is customizable, including the header and the logo of your company. The software creates a complete sales offer including cover letter, tech specs, sales info. The template varies according to the unit model chosen. Generally speaking, regularly for each model there is a template. The customer will need to provide Unilab an offer template. The offer will be shown in one single document, and the user will be able, by selecting/deselecting with a tick its different parts, to include/remove certain parts of the report.

The software Xshark is designed exclusively in Desktop version, and it is not designed to work on the web, on servers or virtual machines. The software is not web based at the moment, although technically the absence of a calculation engine allows Excel tables to be put into a software located in the web.  The Web solution performances can be incredibly slow with a calculation engine, a thing that has since today discouraged the use of this technology for technical software including a core calculation engine (this article evaluates the problems & advantages of a web based solution). Even without the calculation engine, as in the case of Excel table interpolation (today the only web implementable solution) the speed on a web based software can be significantly low depending on the connection speed, the server characteristics & many other factors affecting the web software speed. The customer must choose from the beginning the road of a web or desktop software, as the porting of a desktop software into the web is not possible, and viceversa. The web-based Xshark software development requires far more time, and thus is a solution available at a higher price with respect to the desktop version. The software is integrated and developed in DotNet Framework 2 and DotNet Framework 4 and is compatible with Microsoft® Windows®, 7, 8 and 10 at 32 or 64 bit.
