Latest generation smartphones and the (ridiculous) reasons which make us change phones
Some people check blogs and technology websites continually to find out which among the latest generation smartphones they should buy. Others scan the shop windows in shopping centres twice a week in order to decide with which latest generation device to replace their own.
The excuses used for changing phones every few months are gradually getting more and more imaginative:Â so here are the six main reasons that drive consumers towards the compulsive purchase of latest generation smartphones.
- It’s too old
Replacing the old with the new would be totally legitimate if by ‘old’ we didn’t mean a 24 month old smartphone. Four or five years could be a reasonable compromise, but nowadays who would want such an old-fashioned device?
- The screen is cracked
Shock, horror and disappointment! When the giant screens of the latest generation smartphones get broken, most people are horrified and conclude that it would be better to spend 500 euros on a new device, rather than the 100 euros required to replace the old display…
- It’s not fast enough
Nowadays there is a widely held belief that, if a webpage does not open the very first time the URL is entered into the phone, that phone must be replaced. That’s not to mention the messages to be sent to our friends. For goodness sakes, with the older phones you even have to type them before sending them!
- It’s been dropped several times
It seems particularly necessary to replace our phone when the model we own has been dropped several times. It is as if simply replacing it will prevent the new device from befalling the same fate (and if the same thing should happen of course that will be replaced too…)
- The display is too small or too large
In fact the older smartphones all share the problem of display size: if it is too small we need a bigger one and if it is very big we need a smaller one. Luckily there are plenty of models on the market which are able to meet all our needs.
- It doesn’t have sufficient storage
The thousands of selfies taken in the bathroom after a shower require storage space. If we cannot carry with us all the images we’ve taken each day, how can we hope to go about our lives serenely?
These are the six main reasons why everyone thinks they need to change smartphone at the drop of a hat: some are more ridiculous than others, and when these are combined with our obsession for new and more attractive devices, we are turned into slaves of the latest technology.
