In previous articles about Pillow Plate exchangers, we’ve looked at the advantages of this innovative technology. In the end, however, a notable advantage of this technology is especially the economic one: because producing a pillow plate exchanger is really cheaper than a Shell&Tube. In fact, except in the case of small S&T heat exchangers, generally the cost of producing a Shell & Tube is significantly higher than the cost of starting a Pillow Plates business, and we see why in this article.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in pillow plate heat exchangers (PPHEs) because of their versatility to cover a large number of applications in most industries, as well as their high heat transfer efficiency. In our last article of this series, we will present a comparison, on different aspects, between a PPHE and Shell and Tube, Gasketed Plate, and Spiral Heat Exchangers. We will also discuss in particular the use of PPHE applied to high-temperature flue gas energy recovery.
Here is our part of our series about Pillow Plates Heat exchangers. The current article will focus on examining the Pillow Plate Falling Film Evaporators (PPFFEs), their operating principle and applications. To keep the readers up to date, a brief review will be made regarding some essential concepts of the pillow plate heat exchangers.
Last week, we published our very brief introduction about this innovative heat exchanger, explaining the origin of the name pillow, citing some examples of applications, and explaining the fabrication process of the plates.
Pillow-Plates Heat Exchangers (PPHE) are classified as innovative heat exchangers and are used today in a large range of applications such as ice machines, heat pumps, column reboilers, latent heat storage systems, waste heat recovery, jacketed tanks, etc.
