Personal data on Cloud: advantages and risks
Storing your business and personal data on Cloud may be convenient, practical and advantageous for users, but such technology, also has several ‘cons’ as well as ‘pros’ which cannot be ignored. What are we referring to? Let’s find out together.
These are the facts at the time of writing:
- Cloud Storage (as space which can be accessed via the web, where documents may be stored and shared which would otherwise be stored in company servers or computers. In general, this service also offers a backup in the case of accidental cancellation of data and it comes in both free and purchasable versions). It is a solution designed both for businesses and private individuals
- Cloud Computing (a system which offers the option of using remote servers. The service is based on providing CPUs to process data. It works by sending documents to be drawn up, instructions to be followed during their preparation, and once the job is completed, the finished results can be downloaded. It is a solution designed for companies which is accessible online.
In the case of Cloud Storage for private users, the interesting point is that the service offers a low cost or free space where files (photos, audio etc.) can be stored. This also allows people to share information with others, but does not guarantee a high level of protection as far as privacy and security are concerned
In the case of Cloud Storage for businesses, on the other hand, the main disadvantage is that company data is left in the hands of total strangers and entered into systems which could easily be hacked. Another problem is the continuity of the service: the information is only visible with a working internet connection and an operating system.
If we consider Cloud Storage for businesses, the disadvantages are all those already mentioned (security, privacy, etc.), but the main (considerable) advantage is that it guarantees sizeable savings, especially when occasional, much more costly operations are involved
So these are the main pros and cons of Cloud’s modern technology: advantages and disadvantages to take into careful consideration before entrusting your personal or (especially) your company data to a service managed by third parties.
