The consequences of possessing a smartphone
In this digital era which we are all a part of, what are the real consequences of possessing a smartphone? This hyper-technological and compact device, which on the one hand makes life simpler for its users, but on the other hand can create subjugation and dependence.
With this pocket-sized instrument, you can download any app in order to be punctual, efficient and productive: but the link between smartphones and society is now so indestructible that it is almost dangerous. Why is this? Below are the main effects of the ‘intelligent telephone’!
- It increases stupidity
Among the consequences of the smartphone we cannot overlook, this mini-computer has a very real power to increase the stupidity of the human race. While in the past our intellect was stimulated by the use of street maps, encyclopaediae, dictionaries or books, nowadays a simple click is all it takes to obtain any solution in seconds. Google and Wikipedia above all have now become a sort of magic lantern, to be exploited in every situation to find the right answer without the slightest effort.
- It creates subjugation
In most cases, those who own a smartphone are soon subjugated by it, because its functions render them reachable at all times. When there were just basic mobile phones, anyone could say that they hadn’t noticed a chat or received an email, but with the new technologies everyone can be reached through a multitude of different ways. This causes a kind of submission, especially in the case of dedicated professionals, obliging them to be permanently available in order to avoid letting anyone down.
- It limits social relations
Continuing on the theme of smartphones and society, we know that smartphones lead to the progressive destruction of social relations. It is sufficient to consider the standard occasions: dinner out, a walk in the park, getting together with friends or for an aperitif are all circumstances when people come into contact with others, but today only this contact is only partial. It is true that people still feel the need to meet each other, but is also true that such meetings are continually interrupted by notifications, calls, updates and messages.
Despite these 3 consequences of the smartphone, it must be said that if this instrument is used sparingly it can be extremely useful. The important thing (as in all things) is not to let it condition your life and to keep your distance!
