Which are the most highly-paid roles in the IT sector?
In the field of IT, the pay is an attractive incentive. Those who decide to work in the sector of new technologies and IT in general, can count on relatively high average salaries compared to other jobs (which may also be more physically demanding). This is why more and more people are becoming interested in forging a career in this area.
Every company wishing to remain competitive in the current economic climate, is more or less obliged to equip itself with IT experts and managers. Nowadays, every aspect of business is touched by the web and digital technology, so that employing a well-prepared and reliable professional team is essential.
There are many new professional figures (most have emerged in the last few years) that are closely connected to the above-mentioned sectors and some of these are so rare as to be almost impossible to recruit. Companies who recognise the value of a good IT department compete with each other to attract the sharpest minds, resulting in constant increases in salaries.
Although salaries in Italy are generally lower than the average salaries in other states, IT staff are among the most highly-paid in the entire country.
The most sought-after professionals in IT and their respective salaries
The new IT professions with excellent salaries are numerous and each day new roles emerge involving increasingly specific duties. One authoritative study estimated that in the decade from 2016 to 2026, IT will experience a marked increase in terms of demand and the number of staff employed.
Below, we examine the most sought-after professional roles, along with their average salaries (these values are of course only a rough estimate, as this depends primarily on individual experience, but also on company size and various other factors).
Those members of staff who co-ordinate all aspects of digital business have a huge responsibility within a company. This prestigious role is covered by the Chief Digital Officer or CDO, currently the most highly-paid professional figure in IT, with an average salary of 81,000 Euros per year.
The role of IT manager has seen constant evolution over the years. Originally, their sole responsibility was to co-ordinate the technical side of the company’s IT department, but today they have become more general managers. Their job, in fact, is not only to manage resources involved with technology, but also their suppliers. For some time now, they have also been known as Chief Innovation Officers or CIOs and their average salary is around 57000 Euros per year.
The Mobile Sales Manager is responsible for managing sales via the company’s mobile channels. He or she needs specific skills which allow them to manage the positioning of products or services on search engines and they work in close contact with the digital marketing and category managers. Their salary is approximately 51000 Euros per year.
As far as other technical roles in IT with the highest salaries are concerned, software development remains at the top of the list. Web developers (who develop and integrate website functionalities) and mobile developers (a much sought-after figure who is able to develop applications for smartphones and tablets), earn on average around 33000 Euros per year.
Other roles experiencing rapid growth (which didn’t even exist until a few years ago) are Data Scientists, Multichannel Sales Managers, Digital Media Planners and Growth Hackers. All these can expect salaries in excess of 30000 Euros per year.
