China Refrigeration 2021: a look at the Chinese market
CR 2021, or China Refrigeration, is one of the most important events for Asia’s cold industry. Now in its thirty-second year, this international trade fair focuses on refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating and ventilation, frozen food processing, packaging and storage.
The 2021 edition welcomed almost 1,200 companies from all over the world and over 63,000 individuals including visitors and buyers. New technologies, hundreds of state-of-the-art products and innovative services were presented and they look set to revolutionise world markets.

CR 2021: a voice for Chinese businesses
During CR 2021, a team from Heat Exchanger World (a well-known trade magazine), interviewed some representatives from leading Chinese companies, to get a clearer insight into present and future trends relating to the production and export of cold technologies. One of the insiders interviewed works for a well-known company involved in the local supply of technologies, equipment and products with high energy efficiency and sustainability. He declared that a price war is not a sustainable option for the international market and so it is essential to emphasise the advantages of sci-tech innovation to foreign buyers.
An employee of a company that produces titanium tubes for heat exchangers also observed that China possesses all the necessary characteristics to become successful across international markets.
This is because in the last few years, attention has been focused on the development of equipment using very high quality materials and providing customised services able to match the needs of individual clients. These two features are bringing Chinese products into a new era, as rising stars at global level.
Report on the fair and objectives to be reached
The picture that emerged from China Refrigeration 2021 is an interesting overview of a sector currently undergoing rapid growth. The Chinese heat exchange market only started to become established in the sixties, later than some other countries, but continuous investment and the fast pace of Chinese industrialisation have led to its rapid development.
In fact, domestic demand increased so drastically, that some companies became concerned about their ability to adapt their production in order to be able to respond efficiently.
Nevertheless, according to informed observers, this is an excellent opportunity to stimulate foreign interest.
In the next few years, the number of foreign investors is expected to continue to rise, partly as a result of the need to offer products with an increasingly wide range of functions, as well as high energy efficiency. Many conferences held during CR 2021 focused on the theme of eco-sustainability.
One of the Chinese government’s objectives is the achievement of carbon neutrality and the reduction of the peak carbon dioxide emissions currently recorded across the country. This aim was apparent during the fair, with several press releases, new products and additional forums focusing on these issues.
It is likely then, that in the near future, an emerging trend in the Chinese heat exchanger market will be the adoption of cleaner, completely green energy. In the meantime, high-tech products remain the most attractive to foreign buyers and the rapid technological evolution behind them will bring new growth opportunities for companies all over China.
